1 Jan 2025 is as good a day to start something new as any other day. In fact, the best day to start is today. Because why wait?

I started my side hustle journey ~ a year ago, and 2024 has been a very insightful year for me. It changed everything. Not only my approach to work but also the way I live day by day.

But I didn’t wait for 1st Jan to start. I just did it one day, inspired by someone who has now become my role model and business coach.

You can do it too.

The end of the year in consulting is usually a quiet period (unless you are the unlucky one, selected for a project over Christmas because someone needs to get richer now and cannot wait a few more days).

Quiet periods are good for reflection and summaries. It’s also a good time as you are most likely able to disconnect a bit from work. Getting that different perspective is important and can be a valuable step towards what you want to achieve in life.

5 reasons why you should start something new, now:

1/ You have A LOT OF VALUE to offer!

If you’ve worked in consulting for at least 5-10 years, you can probably double or triple your years of experience to reflect reality.

We all know that in consulting, you learn faster than in many other businesses.This is your competitive advantage.

2/ You are the knowledge and expertise, not your job title.

Knowing what you know, you can achieve a lot. And it’s all yours. No one can take it away from you.You might not see it, but if so, ask others.Ask your friends, people at work, family, and clients.

Understand the value you bring!

People pay experts for their experience, not for their time. Everything is doable with an unlimited number of junior people.People hire experts because they do the same things faster—sometimes in 5 minutes. And that’s what they pay for.

You are one of those experts!

3/ The world is changing towards portfolio careers. The sooner you start yours, the better for you.

What is a portfolio career?A career where you generate income from various workstreams, diversifying your financial income and, at the same time, mitigating the risk of being dependent on only one company—your employer.

Everyone should have a stable amount of passive income.If you haven’t started yet, make sure you do.Then, keep adding pieces and puzzles.You can monetize so many things, including something only you have – your own unique expertise.

This is the direction we see. The US market exploded. This is also coming to Europe; whether we want it or not.Be an early adopter and start your portfolio career today.

4/ There is not enough fun and passion in your life.

Why?You think you’ll enjoy your retirement at the age of 55 after being a partner for a few years?The world has changed! You are working much more than people in consulting several years ago.Are you sure you’ll be able to enjoy life at 55? Will you be fit enough to do so?Will you have enough energy? What if 55 won’t be enough? What if golden handcuffs and the lifestyle you are creating will keep you stuck in that corporate role forever?

Think about it…

And choose fun and joy. There’s never too much joy in life. More often – there’s not enough of it…

5/ Consulting business isn’t that ‘sexy’ anymore….

Rates are dropping, and competition is destroying the market. Many freelancers and solopreneurs offer the same services at ‘reasonable’ prices, making huge businesses out of it.And yes, the brand/logo still matters – but for how long?
