Most people associate new projects, life changes, or important decisions with a new year and New Year’s resolutions. People make all those big plans for the new year but often rush into them, and after a month or two, they just give up. Why? Maybe they haven’t had a tactic to execute, maybe they were lacking motivation, and winter wasn’t a powerful enough time to support them on their further journey. Or maybe they were simply pressured to do something because everyone makes New Year’s resolutions, but there was no real purpose in executing those.

Yes, I think the new year is a hard period to start new things. And I know a much better time that will set you up for a successful execution plan when January comes.

☀️
That magic period is, of course, summer!

Why?

I believe that summer is the time for inspiration and exploration!

My recent summer stories

Last year, before summer, I finished a large life project—building a family house.

I invested about three years into it, from the moment of picking land to buy to the moment of finishing all major work, including the backyard and driveway.

Three summers were three good planning periods to make this project happen.

  • The first summer was all about picking land and buying it. Then came a long period of selecting a project (which, by the way, made the whole family argue for a few months, but in the end, we found common ground).
  • Just before the second summer, I started construction and had to plan all material purchases, make big decisions about the roof, windows, doors, and many more.
  • The third summer was a preparation for internal work, organizing all contractors, and internal decoration like paint, floors, doors, furniture, etc.

So that in the fourth summer, I could finally enjoy spending the first summer in my home and enjoying my garden!

At the same time, a lot of my energy freed up, and as a very active person who really needs to have a purpose and goal in each stage of life, I started exploring what big project to kick off next. As a person who is very ambitious and doesn’t like to stagnate in life, I need new things to happen, and I need something to invest my energy in. Otherwise, I feel like life is slipping through my fingers, and as an Aquarius, I couldn’t accept that.

Being so passionate and determined about everything they do makes them [Aquariuses] relentless achievers. Imelda Green.

And yes, I’m a relentless achiever.

I have always believed I’m a great organizer and could run a business of my own, but I was never convinced enough of the idea. I think I was hoping to partner with someone who would be a good brainstorming partner and support me on that journey. But last summer made me reflect, and I decided I was going to start a new thing that year. I did as I thought.

So what happened between last summer and this summer?

I’ve invested a lot of attention and energy to figure out what I want and what’s going to be my purpose for at least the next couple of years.

👀
Sneak peek: next week I’ll share a bit more insights behind finding my life purpose, so make sure you check out the newsletter.

I created a high-level idea of my business plan, and over the next months, it evolved.

Before January, I started crafting an action plan and was able to start the new year with a strong plan and good ideas.

If not for summer, I would have probably struggled to find so much motivation and energy for a new thing to kick off in winter, and I would have waited for the next summer.

How summer helped in all of that?

🤣
Summer brings joy.

From the youngest years, where summer meant no school and a lot of fun, to ordinary adult life, when for many people, summer has become a period of slow down with either long holidays or short Fridays at work. We do more things after work, we plan more activities outside, simply having more fun. Because summer does seem like all about fun and pleasure. So how not to feel that joy? You shouldn’t resist it!

🏖️
Summer is a time to rest and relax.

We often associate holidays with a time to rest, which is very good! (But we shouldn’t forget about resting in other seasons either.) Summer is different when it comes to rest and relaxation. Summer vibes help you feel energy; temperature and sun make it easier, more accessible. You can go for a walk anytime and feel it. You can walk to work instead of driving because the weather is encouraging you. For me, this relaxation is about chilling out in the morning on my terrace or balcony, with the sun shining directly into my eyes.

🚀
Summer means adventure time.

Holidays, trips, family times over weekends, having fun with kids or pets. All of this brings more opportunities to experience an adventure. We do associate adventures with travel, and summer gives us the most opportunities to do so. Being able to open yourself to them is priceless. So go and find one for you this summer! I will too.

☀️
In summer, days are the longest.

The sun rises so early, supporting early birds, and there are so many hours before sunset!

For me, it feels like the day has doubled compared to winter. Sunlight gives us that energy to act and do things; it opens us up to the world. So not only do we seem to have more time (with longer days), but most of all, more energy and motivation to use it. For me, summer is very helpful in waking up early (compared to dark winter months).

⛰️
Summer means more activities in the fresh air.

There are so many ways of spending time outside, no matter the weather. Yet, still, summer wins! Sometimes I think we are somehow paralyzed by other seasons and limit ourselves from spending more time outside. Fortunately, we have summer! It compensates a bit. Whether a morning walk, coffee in the local café, or weekend hiking—it’s all so easily accessible in summer. And we all know that fresh air is healthy! This summer, I’m choosing more walks and working in the fresh air.

A challenge for you:

Use this summer to explore what new project in life you can start crafting to be ready when January arrives.

If you already have one, don’t sit back and wait.

Use summer to make your project plan better!

Seek new inspirations.

Meet new people.

Enjoy it!

(After long winter months of hard work.)

Closing remarks

I have an ambitious plan for this summer, including starting an action plan for a big project to kick off next year. I hope to share a bit more with you later this year. But I highly encourage you to create one yourself. Big plans executed with small daily steps have made a huge difference in my life 😍.

Use summer's power to make that first move and create an idea, then use the following months to shape it, so that January doesn’t surprise you with the pressure to launch something new in your life. Anytime is a good time to start something new, but summer might make it easier for you. It does for me.
